Sipay celebrates its 25th anniversary and opens its new office in Alcobendas

The company celebrates its trajectory in the payments sector, with the presence of Ignacio García de Vinuesa, Mayor of Alcobendas and Javier Ruiz Santiago, Deputy Minister of Economy and Competitiveness of the Community of Madrid.

The development and growth of a company is the result of many hours of work and depends directly on the team that composes it. Thanks to a great team, this Monday, April 8, has taken place the inauguration of the new facilities that expand the headquarters of Sipay Plus, Spanish payment gateway with 25 years of experience in the sector. With this extension, their space is doubled, also with the aim of multiplying the number of people who are part of this project. The event, opened by José Luis Nevado, CEO and Founder of Sipay, was also attended by Ignacio García de Vinuesa, current Mayor of Alcobendas (the municipality where the offices are located) and President of the Economy and Employment Commission of the Madrid Federation of Municipalities, and Javier Ruiz Santiago, Deputy Minister of Economy and Competitiveness of the Community of Madrid.
But how did we get here?
When digital payments were limited to cards and contactless technology or biometrics seemed like a science fiction story, Sipec was born, the origin of today’s Sipay Plus. It was the year 1994 and since then, the changes have not stopped happening, both in the sector and in the company, which has had to adapt and anticipate the increasingly numerous and innovative technologies in the field of payment methods.
In addition to a great evolution, Sipay has experienced an enormous growth, specially in recent years. The last economic crisis meant a great reduction in the workforce, and in 2015 the company was made up of only 13 employees. Today, the number has almost quadrupled and expectations are getting higher. In this same sense of growth, the increase in the volume of transactions processed is noteworthy, enhanced not only by the upward trend in the use of digital payment methods, but also by the number of customers, as there are now more than 70 who rely on Sipay Plus to process their payments, including Mango, the Hotusa Group, Epark or Dineo. Many of them are international companies, which take the payment gateway to perform operations in more than 70 countries.
The same applies to payment methods, whose offer has increased to include both online and offline channels and including less common alternatives such as payment by phone call or through a link sent to the email. In addition, the possibilities of incorporating all the alternative payment methods that the customer may need have been opened up, such as Amazon Pay, in whose integration Sipay is a pioneer in the area of payment gateways in Spain.
But these changes have not only happened in the field of innovation, but also in the field of security. In 2012, Sipay became the first payment gateway to obtain the PCI DSS certificate, an international recognition of the effort and maximum compliance with the security standards established in the payments industry. From the two certified products it had in its beginnings, it has now more than twenty that comply with the latest version of PCI DSS 3.2.1. This progress does not end here, as since the emergence of the new European payments regulation (PSD2), which increases security requirements and poses numerous challenges and opportunities for the sector, Sipay wants to become a reference and guide to help the agents involved in its implementation.
All of this is possible thanks to the passion put into each idea, the employees who work every day to create the greatest value and the customers who place their trust in this company for the management of their payments.
